About Durango Remodeling

Built on Craftsmanship. Driven by Integrity.

Durango Remodeling is a family-owned company built on decades of hands-on craftsmanship and a commitment to doing things the right way.

The company was originally founded in 1980 by Tuck in Sedona, Arizona. After 20 years in business, he and his wife relocated to Durango in 2001, where he restarted the company as Durango Carpentry. In 2008, the company became Durango Remodeling, and in 2017, Tyler took over leadership. In 2020, when Jess joined the team, the company transitioned to a full design-build model — bringing construction and design together under one roof.

Today, we remain a small, family-owned company focused on quality over volume

Our Story

From Custom Homes to Remodeling Specialists

Tuck began his career as a furniture builder in the 1970s. Tyler started in cabinetry in the 1990s. Fine craftsmanship has always been at the core of what we do.

In the early years, we focused on custom home building. During the 2008 recession, when new construction slowed, we pivoted to residential remodeling. What we discovered is that remodeling requires even greater attention to detail — blending what already exists with what’s newly built takes experience, creativity, and precision.

That shift became our niche.

Today, our sole focus is residential remodeling. While we handle additions and exterior work, we truly shine in interior finishes, trim work, and cabinetry — where craftsmanship matters most.

Our Mission: Communication First

At Durango Remodeling, communication is our top priority.

We believe homeowners deserve full visibility into their project — from scope and cost to schedule and progress. We work hard to fully understand your vision and expectations before construction begins.

Throughout your project, you can expect:

  • Regular schedule and budget updates
  • Clear discussion of issues and solutions
  • On-site meetings
  • Communication via email, phone, video, or text — based on your preference
  • Bi-weekly invoices detailing materials and labor

Our core values guide every project:
Quality. Integrity. Communication.

Step 4

Build & Completion

Your project moves efficiently from start to finish, with ongoing communication every step of the way.

Step 4

Construction With Care

Respecting Your Home

We understand that remodeling can disrupt daily life — especially if you’re living in the home during construction. Our goal is to minimize that disruption as much as possible.

We:

  • Maintain tight schedules to reduce project duration
  • Use floor protection, tarp walls, and dust control systems
  • Block off air handling equipment to minimize dust spread
  • Provide HEPA filtration when needed
  • Return non-construction areas to usable condition each evening
  • Coordinate dumpster placement and parking in advance
  • Adjust start times and work schedules when possible to fit your routine

Our aim is simple: leave your home livable and respected throughout the process.

A Family-Owned Company Focused on Quality

Durango Remodeling isn’t a high-volume operation. We’re a hands-on team that values craftsmanship, transparency, and long-term relationships.

We believe remodeling should feel organized, respectful, and collaborative — not chaotic.

If you’re ready to create a space that blends thoughtful design with expert craftsmanship, we’d love to talk.

Local Knowledge. Thoughtful Planning.

Working with Durango’s Climate & Community in Mind

Durango’s climate influences how we plan projects. We schedule heavy exterior work during summer and fall whenever possible, while maintaining flexibility for winter weather delays.

We also avoid major renovations in primary residences during the holiday season whenever possible — because no one wants a half-built kitchen during Thanksgiving.

We believe in minimizing waste. When we remove materials like cabinets, doors, or unused tile that are still in good condition, we donate them to local charities and provide homeowners with donation receipts for tax purposes. We also recycle scrap metal from our jobs to reduce landfill waste.
